Kia ora, I am trying to trace my whakapapa back to Tuwharetoa. My great grandmother is Pipi Maunga who married Heretini Wikitari Tame. Can anybody help me find my Tuwharetoa line. I know it is close because where I grew up in Whakarewarewa (Ngati Wahiao) All of the old people talk about Heretini and his Te Heuheu connection. I can only assume that is through Pipi Maunga (Pukawa). I can remember meeting with Hepi Te Heuheu at Hato Petera College and he giving me this huge embrace/hug that still resonates with me today after 40 years. My whanau say that Heretini was the maangai for Tuwharetoa at his time. However I hope the names of Peter Rangikaripiripia Heretini Tame may provide some clues. Kia ora.

Kia ora, Takarea was the 'first born' of Horonuku. I understand why Tureiti was chosen as chief. But perhaps your advisers at teara.govt.nz should explain that in your docs. Its confusing. I know that only males are designated as chiefs [in Tuwharetoa] but I think the distinction needs to be made about gender vs. age - to be fair to whakapapa.
