Richard Hadlee successfully appeals for leg-before-wicket and Allan Border is dismissed on the first day of New Zealand's test against Australia at the Basin Reserve on 21 February, 1986. That match was drawn but New Zealand won the series 1–0. Richard Hadlee was then at the height of his powers and confirming his status as New Zealand's most distinguished test cricketer as well as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. Hadlee, who came from Christchurch, was the son of a former New Zealand captain, Walter Hadlee. He was knighted in 1990 while touring England on his last tour. He liked to say that he was the first bowler to be knighted since Sir Francis Drake.
