This is the cover of the first issue of the New Zealand Listener, 30 June 1939. The new magazine had the sole right to list forthcoming radio programmes, which guaranteed it commercial success. Under its first editor, Oliver Duff, the Listener gained a reputation for the high literary standard of its articles.
