Story: Drugs

Raid on 'P' labs

This television news item from June 2010 reports on police raids on three methamphetamine or 'P' laboratories in the Christchurch area. One of the labs was in Hornby, one in Lyttelton and one in a townhouse only 100 metres from the central police station. Tear-gas cannisters were thrown into the houses and 11 people were arrested. Unlike other hard drugs, methamphetamine is not imported but made in labs from medicinal drugs. Pseudoephedrine, which had been a major raw material for the drug, has been prohibited from import without a licence.
