Winning the America’s Cup

New Zealand achieved a remarkable international success in 1995 when it won the America’s Cup in yachting. This footage shows the last few seconds of the fifth and final race off San Diego, when the New Zealand yacht NZL-32, called Black magic, defeated Dennis Connor’s yacht. Five years later the cup was successfully defended on Waitematā Harbour, but in 2003 Team New Zealand lost the cup to the Swiss boat Alinghi which had a crew including the former Team New Zealand members, Brad Butterworth and Russell Coutts.
