Ōtara markets

Every Saturday the parking lot near the Ōtara shopping centre is transformed into a large open-air market, attracting thousands of shoppers and bargain hunters. It has long been a favourite place for politicians to woo voters. In this 1999 clip, Labour Party leader Helen Clark and local MP Taito Philip Field greet shoppers – before bumping into National Party opponent Arthur Anae and his supporters.
