Yellow-eyed mullet

This school of yellow-eyed mullet (Aldrichetta forsteri) is seen among mangroves in the Matapōuri estuary, Northland. They are common in shallow bays and estuaries around New Zealand, and are often caught by children fishing from wharves. As their name suggests, they are easily identified by their bright yellow eyes.
