Unveiling of the Kate Sheppard National Memorial in Christchurch

Crowds of women surround the newly unveiled memorial to women's suffrage leader Kate Sheppard in Christchurch on 19 September 1993 – the 100th anniversary of women gaining the vote in New Zealand. The sculptor of the memorial was Margriet Windhausen, a Dutch-born New Zealander who had also sculpted a memorial to Abel Tasman.
