Prison staff uniform, 2011 (2nd of 2)

Prison staff uniform, 2011

These new uniforms for prison staff were adopted by the Department of Corrections in September 2011. The uniforms are designed to cater for the many and varied duties of modern corrections officers. The officers shown also sport modern communications equipment. Corrections officers in the 2000s still faced a challenging job, but there was more emphasis on initiative than following orders by rote. Officers could also join the Corrections Association of New Zealand, the union that advocates for their pay and conditions.
