With fellow Labour MPs, Iriaka Rātana speaks to supporters of the Rātana political movement on Manukorihi marae, Waitara. She became a second wife to Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana, the founder of the Rātana faith, in 1925. After his death in 1939 she married his son Matiu Rātana, whom she later succeeded as the MP for Western Māori.
