Otago Boys' High School, about 1864

Students of Otago Boys' High School line up outside their first school building, around 1864. The school was one of the few public secondary schools established in the 19th century. They were usually highly academic, and charged fees. Apart from a few students who won scholarships, most of those who attended were the children of the well-off.
