Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior

Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior

The mission of the Rainbow Warrior, a Greenpeace ship, was to oppose French nuclear testing in the Pacific. In 1985 the Rainbow Warrior was sunk in Auckland Harbour by French agents, with the death of crew member Fernando Pereira. France’s action epitomised what many New Zealanders saw as the arrogance of larger powerful nations.
