Some businesses pass down through families. The Fletcher Construction Company was controlled by three generations of Fletchers. It was founded by James Fletcher (second from left) in 1909. His son James (Jim) Fletcher (right) joined the family firm in 1937, becoming secretary of the company in 1940 and managing director in 1942. Jim retired in 1979, and his son Hugh (second from right) took up the reins. When Hugh retired in 1997 this signalled the end of the Fletcher family's control of the company. The family are seen here on the morning of Hugh's wedding, in 1964.
