Mt Maunganui Lionesses

In 2006 the Mt Maunganui Lionesses dressed up for a walking event to raise public awareness of breast cancer. Lionesses clubs began in New Zealand in 1976 as adjuncts to the men-only Lions service clubs, and raised money for a range of community causes. When in 1991 the women were given the option of joining the Lions, some Lionesses clubs chose to keep their separate status.
