Story: Hauraki–Coromandel region

The Swamp Foxes

The Swamp Foxes

The Thames Valley Rugby Football Union was established in 1921 by combining a goldfields union at Waihī and newer unions at Paeroa, on the Hauraki Plains and in upper parts of the Thames valley. The union later took in the Coromandel Peninsula as well, but the representative team is still known as the Swamp Foxes in acknowledgement of the former wetlands of the plains.
