Māori church, Rangiriri, 1864

Rangiriri was the site of a significant battle in the Waikato War in November 1863. Local Māori who supported the Māori King movement against the colonial state were also believers in their own form of Christianity. This is their church – in front are the graves of men killed in the battle some months before.
