Kaumātua and rūnanga: Tākitimu

This was the first meeting of the Tākitimu Māori Council, in 1902, at Te Poho-o-Rāwiri meeting house. The council was a government-sponsored form of the traditional rūnanga (tribal council).

Back row: Hapi Hinaki (Whāngārā), Paora Kohu (Muriwai), Pewhairangi (Tokomaru Bay), Rangi (Tolaga Bay), Arani Kunaiti (Te Rēinga).
