The young Ed Hillary was photographed in the early 1920s in the garden of his parents’ home at Tūākau, South Auckland. He was the second of Percival and Gertrude Hillary’s three children. Ed and his siblings enjoyed outdoor activities in the countryside around the small town of Tūākau.
