Grandparents as parents

Grandparents as parents

Some people become parents through social rather than biological circumstances. One example is grandparents who care for their grandchildren on a permanent basis because the parents are unable to do, so reasons that include death, inability or (rarely) disinclination. Auckland woman Virginia Peebles and her 13-year-old grandson James are shown here in their Māngere East home in 2006.
