Story: Hawke’s Bay places

Viking sign, Dannevirke

Image
Viking sign, Dannevirke

Dannevirke prides itself on its Scandinavian heritage, and images such as this Viking warrior are found throughout the town. This sign plays on warlike Viking stereotypes which have little connection with the 19th-century immigrants who came to clear the bush and establish farms.

This out of date info, is potentially dangerous to those in need, try calling an Ambo or Fire Truck from HB : we are Tararua District, everything South of the Manawatu River @ Norsewood is in the Manawatu Wanganui region (including Dannevirke)

Dannevirke is in the Tararua District, which is not part of Hawkes Bay and hasn't been for over 20 years. It actually falls within the Manawatu-Wanganui Region.
