Hastings industry

Hastings industry

This view looks over the Tōmoana freezing works towards the city of Hastings in 1976. These works, the nearby Whakatū works, and the large Wattie’s cannery were key elements in Hastings’s 20th-century growth. In the 1950s nearly half the city’s male workforce was engaged in manufacturing or in processing locally grown produce.
