Bill Phillips built the MONIAC, using perspex and parts scavenged from a Lancaster bomber, in a friend’s garage in Surrey, England. The MONIAC (short for Monetary National Income Analogue Computer) could carry out calculations and was programmable. Fiscal policy, monetary policy and exchange rates could all be studied.
