Beef production research, Ruakura, 1956

Beef production research began at the Ruakura Research Station, near Hamilton, in the 1950s. Cattle were bred on hill country at the nearby Whatawhata Research Station and brought to Ruakura to be finished. These two-year-old cross-bred steers were part of a research programme to assess cattle growth rates at different stocking rates.
