Stewarts Cave

Stewarts Cave

Underneath the Auckland suburb of Three Kings is Stewarts Cave. It is named after the civil engineer James Stewart, who in the 1870s proved that parts of Auckland’s lava beds were cavernous. The caves were later mostly destroyed by quarrying.
