Sightseers travel on the ‘Wiri Rambler’ through the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa. Opened in 1982, the garden covers 64 hectares and has over 10,000 plants. It is owned and managed by the Auckland Regional Council. The gardens have a strong research focus and include a threatened species garden and a children’s garden. Huakaiwaka, the award-winning visitor centre, opened in 2005.
