Story: Coarse fish

Bow hunter and koi carp

Bow hunter and koi carp

Bow hunter Dave Gousemett shot this 11.2-kilogram koi carp at Lake Whāngāpē, north-west of Huntly. Bow hunters target koi in Waikato lakes and the Waikato River. The brightly coloured fish are visible even in the turbid waters of this area. They are now the dominant fish species in the lower Waikato River.
