Story: Dune lands

Raumati

Image
Raumati

This southern part of the town of Raumati, on the Kāpiti Coast, is built on an old active dune land. The hummocky terrain, now largely covered in housing and farmland, was once dunes. Sand movement was once much more common on this coast. In the late 1840s an abandoned Māori church at nearby Waikanae was buried by dunes.
