Story: Jews

The younger generation

The younger generation

The New Zealand Jewish community has long included passionate Zionists among its members. Numbers of young Jewish New Zealanders have chosen to go to Israel, for shorter or longer periods, as an expression of their commitment to Jewish culture and the Jewish state. Photographed in 2004 at Wellington’s Jewish Community Centre, these teenagers belong to a youth group whose members sometimes go to stay on a kibbutz in Israel.
