Story: Wairarapa region

Milking sheep

Milking sheep

Some Wairarapa farmers have diversified into sheep milk production. Janet and Miles King had a flock of 140 East Friesian ewes on their 11-hectare farm near Masterton in 2003. They produced a wide range of cheese, including feta, gouda, cheddar and havarti. Julia Harrild is attaching milking cups to one of the ewes.
