Tumu Te Heuheu

The paramount chief of Ngāti Tūwharetoa from 1997 until his death in 2025 was Sir Tumu Te Heuheu. He continued the work of his father, Sir Hepi Te Heuheu (who held the title from 1944 to 1997), in organising national meetings to present a unified Māori perspective on important issues. He was succeeded by his son, Gerrard Te Rangimaheu Te Heuheu.
