Ketetahi springs

Ketetahi springs

According to legend, to warm himself while on Mt Tongariro, Ngātoroirangi called for three baskets of fire, but only one arrived, so he threw the remains into the side of the mountain. The place where it landed was named Ketetahi (one basket): its hot springs send steam into the mountain air.
