Scientists board a Hercules aircraft at the International Antarctic Centre passenger terminal, near Christchurch airport. The centre opened in 1990 to support New Zealand, American and Italian scientific programmes in Antarctica. It includes offices, warehouses, a store, a post office, a travel agency and a visitor centre, The Antarctic Attraction.
