Weevils are beetles with snouts known as rostrums. This stilbocarpa weevil (Hadramphus stilbocarpae) feeds on the fleshy herb stilbocarpa. Also known as the knobbled weevil, it is found on islands around Fiordland and Foveaux Strait. Like other flightless New Zealand insects it is very prone to attack by rats. Many New Zealand insect species are now confined to predator-free islands.
