Auckland’s busy waterfront has seen dramatic political and sporting conflict over the years, including the divisive 1951 waterfront labour dispute, the 1985 bombing of Greenpeace protest ship the Rainbow Warrior, and New Zealand’s successful defence of the America’s Cup sailing trophy in 1999–2000.
