Fighting for the empire

Fighting for the empire

When the New Zealand War Contingent Association produced this postcard in 1915 they included lines from ‘England’s answer’, a poem by Rudyard Kipling (sometimes known as the poet of empire). In the early 20th century New Zealand’s commitment to the empire was strong. New Zealand's flag is shown here above those of Britain, Australia, France and other First World War allies.
