Faith healing (healing by the power of spiritual belief) is an important element of many Pentecostal and other churches. In the 1920s and 1930s Pentecostal evangelist Arthur Dallimore attracted large crowds to faith-healing services in Auckland. He claimed to heal people at a distance, sometimes sending them a handkerchief he had prayed over. As this 1932 newspaper article describes, Dallimore also claimed to heal farm animals and birds 'by the wonderful healing power of Jesus'.
