Story: Income and wealth distribution

How rich or poor is your household?

How rich or poor is your household?

To find out how the income of your household compared with other households in New Zealand in 2007, first identify the make-up of your household; then select your household's 2007 income (after tax, but including social security benefits). This will show the decile (tenth) your household falls into in terms of income. If your household was in the bottom three deciles, you were relatively poor; if your household income was in the top three you were relatively rich. The results may surprise, since many New Zealanders have little sense as to how well-off they are compared with their fellow citizens.
