Story: Ngā whakataunga tiriti – Treaty of Waitangi settlement process
In 2008 Treaty Negotiations Minister Michael Cullen signed a deed of settlement with seven central North Island tribes, transferring ownership of over $400 million worth of state forest land and accumulated rentals. The so-called 'Treelords' deal (a play on the name of the earlier Sealord settlement) was the largest treaty settlement signed by that date.
