This meeting was held at Pāwhakairo village near Napier in 1863 to celebrate the gift of a flour mill by the government. A large feast featured traditional foods such as tahā huahua (gourds containing preserved birds), seen in the foreground, as well as turkeys, geese, fowls and ‘pigs of enormous size and fatness’ (quoted in the Daily Southern Cross, 3 August 1863).
