This painting of Adams mistletoe (Trilepidea adamsii) was made from a specimen collected from Great Barrier Island. Adams mistletoe was originally found in coastal and lowland forest in the upper part of the North Island. During the 20th century it gradually became rare, and is now apparently extinct. Despite searches of likely habitats, it has not been seen since 1970.

Its extinction is probably due to a combination of factors, including loss of habitat, loss of pollinators, and browsing by possums.
