In the 1970s a new creative spirit entered New Zealand advertising, due to television and a growing emphasis on branding rather than a product’s benefits. Colenso was a leading agency that demonstrated these trends during that decade. They were responsible for the National Party advertisements in the 1975 election, which caused widespread discussion. This advertisement, with animations by Hollywood cartoon company Hanna-Barbera, was among the most controversial.
