Ko te rironga o ngā whenua tētahi take i hūnuku ai ngā Māori ki ngā tāone i te rautau 1900. I hangaia te mahere nei mō te pukapuka mahere whenua kāore i whakaputaina i te tau 1940. Ko ngā wāhi whero ngā whenua Māori i ngaro ki te tau 1850. I tēnei wā i roto tonu te nuinga o ōna whenua i ngā ringaringa o te Māori.
