Story: Archery, fencing, shooting and military re-enactment

National championship, 1950

New Zealand’s National Film Unit covered the 1950 national archery championship, held in Wellington. Jim Burton was one of the competitors. Of the 13 times he competed in the national championship between 1943 and 1960, this was the only time he lost. Burton is referred to as having won Olympic medals. Archery was not an Olympic sport between 1920 and 1972, but the United States National Archery Association ran an 'Olympic Bowman League' competition. It was this that Burton had won.
