Chanel Clarke, curator Māori at Auckland Museum, and Bernard Makoare, a representative of Taumata-ā-Iwi (the museum's Māori committee), are shown here with Tangonge, also known as the Kaitāia lintel, in the museum's basement on 23 April 2012. Tangonge was about to be loaned for year to the Northland iwi Te Rarawa and exhibited at Kaitāia's Te Ahu Heritage museum. Taumata-ā-Iwi has representatives from the local iwi Ngāti Whātua-o-Ōrākei, Ngāti Pāoa and Waikato-Tainui, who advise the museum on issues concerning Māori and taonga (treasures).
