Story: Plays and playwrights

Horseplay (1st of 3)

Horseplay

James K. Baxter and Ronald Hugh Morrieson were two hard-drinking mavericks of New Zealand literature who never crossed paths in real life. Ken Duncum's 2010 comedy Horseplay brings them together in Morrieson's kitchen in 1972 Hāwera. This photo shows the original Auckland Theatre Company production of Horseplay, directed by Simon Bennett, with John Leigh as Morrieson (left) and Tim Balme as Baxter.
