Staff from the Amokura Family Violence Prevention project celebrate winning a human rights award from the New York-based Leitner Center for International Law and Justice in May 2009. The project was a Tai Tokerau (Northland) initiative which co-ordinated violence prevention and early intervention strategies, with particular emphasis on Māori families. The joint project between seven iwi authorities in the region ended in 2011 after government funding was reallocated to ‘frontline’ services.
