Story: Child abuse

Social workers

Two men stand against a wall.

Social workers deal with cases of child abuse and neglect on a daily basis. Phil Skipworth (left) was placed at Porirua College in 1999 as part of the Social Workers in Schools scheme. He was joined by community liaison worker Conway Matthews (right) in 2000. While much of their time was spent addressing behavioural, drug and alcohol problems, they also dealt with abuse in the home.
