This tower, used to pour concrete on Waikato River hydro-electric schemes, was one of two making this journey in the 1950s. The pair were the first ready-built towers transported in New Zealand. They were carried for the Ministry of Works by Geo. Dale & Son, heavy haulage specialists. The units visible on either side of the truck bed are a stabilisation system developed by the company’s mechanical engineers. The firm later became part of the Freightways group.
