Child, Youth and Family (now Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children) was the government agency that handled adoptions. The 2007 pamphlet Adoption in New Zealand: some questions and answers explains what adoption is, where information about adoption is available, how to make an application to adopt, and the subsequent process.
