Kōrero: Koreans

Alex Kim, chef

Alex Kim, chef

Korean chef Alex Kim established Hansik, a contemporary Korean bar and restaurant, in Auckland in 2015. His aim was to create a unique New Zealand-style Korean luxury cuisine that would be acceptable to western palates. Kim’s menu was inspired by the cuisine of the royal court of the Joseon Dynasty, which ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910, and included the signature dish of gujeolpan (pictured, centre), consisting of nine assorted foods served on a large white ceramic plate.
